The Boise State University Micron Center for Materials Research is 3-story, 125,000 square foot building that contains a laboratory wing, faculty and student offices, classrooms, and support spaces. This world-class research institution will be a hub for scientists and students, as well as a connection point for academic programs and external partners. The building was designed as two seismically separated structures with the laboratory facilities separated from all other facilities. The laboratory wing implements a reinforced concrete slab system that was designed to meet a floor vibration performance criterion of 2,000 micro-inches/second to facilitate the use of high-precision research equipment on the elevated levels. The office, classroom, and support portion of the building is a steel structure comprised of a 7,800 square foot elevated lecture hall, two architectural feature stairs, and an elevated walkway between the classroom and office areas of the building.
