The general contractor and the key trade sub-contractors were engaged early in the design process to ensure an integrated project delivery utilizing their specialized expertise. The design and construction team worked collaboratively on utility relocation and phasing design to keep existing hospital operational during construction.
The 6-story, facility provides the campus with an additional 72 inpatient beds and spaces for nursing, observation, operating rooms, NICU, imaging, IR/cardiac catheterization, sterile processing, pediatrics and pharmacy. The new tower is connected to existing hospital through a connector link that required a local structural retrofit. The façade consists of a unitized curtain wall system which allows in natural daylight to support the healing process. To meet the expanded energy and utility needs of the campus, the existing central plant was expanded by 7,400-sf.
