Muckleshoot 1st Avenue Tribal Fishing Wharf

KPFF is prime consultant for the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe (MIT), leading a multi-disciplinary team to accomplish a site redevelopment and improvement project for their waterfront fishing terminal in Seattle. This facility acts as the MIT’s main facility for tribe members’ fishing vessels to stock supplies, unload fish, stock ice, and store vessels both in water and on land. The site was improved with a floating industrial marina for fishing operations, which replaced an aging bulkhead and installed new utilities.KPFF performed a conditions assessment of the existing timber and concrete wharves on the site. This included an existing 10,000 sf timber pier which was evaluated with the other structures to determine the ultimate need for repair or replacement. KPFF provided designs, cost estimates and bid support for the project including repairs to the timber bulkheads and wharves. The project includes demolition of select portions of dock in an initial construction phase, and full pier demolition/replacement in later phases. The project also includes the design and installation of 6000 square feet of new mooring floats equipped with utilities and lighting, as well as replacing the existing failing timber bulkheads behind the pier with a new steel sheet pile wall .KPFF worked with Muckleshoot to obtain all Federal Permits in less than 9 months through extensive collaboration with all agencies.
