In July of 2019, The Brooklyn Hospital Center began work on a multi-phased effort to rehabilitate the existing Emergency Department into a state-of-the-art facility. KPFF developed civil and structural engineering construction documents for the emergency department alterations and improvements.
The civil engineering scope of work includes the removal and reconfiguration of the existing emergency room drop-off and ambulance response area along Dekalb Avenue. The new drop off area and plaza will create a pedestrian friendly zone while maintaining emergency vehicle access.
The structural engineering scope of work includes foundation and roof deck modifications to enable replacement of the faded brick facade with new curtain wall, new framing systems to support new architectural elements like the parapet wall and ambulance parking canopy and the support of new mechanical units.
