Fisher Island Transfer Bridge

The primary goal of the Fisher Island Commercial Ferry Terminal project was to provide additional capacity and reliable service for commercial traffic going to and from the island. Two new terminals, one on Terminal Island and one on Fisher Island, have been completed for the project. KPFF provided conceptual design for mechanical and structural design of this project.  A new vehicle transfer bridge concept has been developed to facilitate ferry operations at both terminals. The new transfer bridge includes a 48’ long, hydraulically operated bridge span, a 16’ passive apron structure, and a set of 5’ long finger structures. The transfer bridge is hinged at the terminal end and is supported by a hydraulic hoist system.
