The HCA Riverside Community Hospital new patient tower is a 7-story, 550,000-SF building consisting primarily of medical/surgical units, ICU units, smaller spaces for diagnostic & imaging, clinical laboratory, administration, and a lobby. The structure also included a loading dock and central plant and a large mechanical area with a screen on the roof that houses the AHU units. The skin system consisted of a combination of EIFS, metal panel and curtain wall. The gravity system consisted of reinforced concrete on metal deck supported by wide flange beams and girders which are in turn supported by steel wide flange columns. The lateral system consisted of Side Plate Moment Resisting Frames in both directions. The building foundation consisted of cast in place piles connected by grade beams. Site retaining walls were needed for the site along with a new permanent shoring wall to support the grade change from the new patient tower and the existing Building C.
