Market District (5th Street Market Expansion) and 6th and Oak

KPFF led the civil engineering effort for the expansion of the 5th Street Public Market district in Eugene. The 5th Street Public Market is a thriving eclectic mix of retail businesses, restaurants, and pedestrian-friendly areas for Eugene residents and visitors to shop, dine, and recreate. This expansion added a new Nike retail store on 6th Avenue and Pearl Street, designed to pay homage to the site’s earlier use as an industrial and manufacturing center. The district also welcomed a new seven-story, 127-unit apartment building, the Gordon Lofts, with ground-floor retail, fitness center, and rooftop garden. The other main component is the seven-story 82-room boutique hotel, The Gordon Hotel, on the corner of 6th Avenue and Oak Street, kitty-corner from the Eugene Conference Center. Paintings from local artists depicting Eugene’s history are on display throughout the buildings. The hotel features 4,000 SF feet for dining on the ground floor, a second floor devoted to meeting space, and a rooftop garden and bar. The expansion also includes two new plazas, a covered market street with outdoor seating, and covered drop off for hotel guests.
