Providence St. Jude Medical Center Northwest Tower

The new 4-story hospital tower includes 120 patient beds, houses private and semi/private rooms, 14 operating rooms providing “smart” surgical suites, a cafeteria with ample space, support staff areas, materials management, and a pharmacy. The “smart” surgical suites feature advanced technology equipment offering patients the most diligent healthcare possible. The project also included a one-story 17,000-SF stand-alone central utilities plant located adjacent to the existing central plant. Lastly, the project also included connectors to the existing North Building at L-1 and L-4 levels. The foundation system consisted of large grade beams with tie down anchors at the ends. The lateral force resisting system consisted of buckling restrained braced frames. The tower includes numerous sustainable features including high performance window glazing, sun shading and well-insulated walls and roof as well as energy efficient mechanical systems. The mechanical system utilizes a 100 percent outside air system with heat recovery that yields superior indoor air quality and controls infections.
