KPFF is currently providing structural engineering services for the State & Arthur Apartments. This project provides affordable housing using the City of Boise’s Housing Land Trust Model. State & Arthur is a five-story building with four levels of traditional wood-framed residential units over a post-tensioned podium with elevated courtyard. The units range from studio apartments to three-bedroom units. The ground floor of State & Arthur includes 87 parking spaces, 104 bike spaces, leasing office, a daycare, and a covered playground.
Early in the design process, KPFF recommended a more cost-effective soil improvement solution, utilizing rammed aggregate piers to the geotechnical engineer. Additionally, KPFF has engaged and continues to engage with the contractor to ensure material uses and design parameters work efficiently with the contractor and subcontractor preferences. For example, KPFF engaged with a local concrete subcontractor to work through the tendon layout and pour strip/pour joint locations at the 45-degree bend in the podium, which adds complexity, and is finding solutions that work well for both parties.
