Structural Engineering
Education, Laboratories
The Horiba Institute for Mobility and Connectivity is a tenant improvement to the existing lab building and a new outdoor patio space at the south end of The Engineering Gateway. The lab space required several large pieces of equipment including a large steel plate for vehicle testing. KPFF also worked closely with the contractor to communicate the specific sequencing and detailing required for each piece of equipment.
The lab space also required the replacement of the existing mezzanine so that it could be used as a viewing platform accessible from the engineering gateway. KPFF was developed a lateral system that utilized the existing walls so the space below was free of obstructions for flexibility of equipment placement and glazing for the testing/observation room.
